UCI Esports Research Lab

UCI's Esports Research Lab studies competitive videogame teams, players, organizers, creators, entrepreneurs, and fans.

Our research examines esports players and fans, investigating the cognitive, social, and behavioral aspects of competitive video game play and community participation. We take a game agnostic approach, although most of our work focuses on individual and team cognition and social interaction, spectator engagement, and community production. We use a mix of methods ranging from game analytics and quantitative surveys to field observations and conversation analysis.
